Bilingual Education Exception and ESL Waiver Resources
ÌýApplication Requirements
- Local Education Agencies (LEAs), including school districts, districts of innovation, and open-enrollment charter schools that are unable to provide the appropriately certifiedÌýteachers to implement the bilingual program mustÌýrequest from the commissioner of education an exception forÌýthe bilingualÌýprogram and approval to offer temporaryÌýalternative methodsÌýas per 19 TAC §89.1207(a).Ìý
- Local Education Agencies (LEAs), including school districts, districts of innovation, and open-enrollment charter schools that are unable to provide the appropriately certified teachersÌýto implement the ESL programÌýmust request from the commissioner of education a waiver forÌýtheÌýESL programÌýand approval to offer temporaryÌýalternative methodsÌýas per 19 TAC §89.1207(b).
- All Bilingual ExceptionÌýand ESL Waiver submissions are due on or beforeÌýNovember 1, 2024, using theÌýË¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Login Application.ÌýÌý
- The district's Bilingual/ESL contact person in collaboration with the Human Resources contact person, may complete the exception/waiver application, but the applicationÌýincludesÌýan assurance that the superintendent has reviewed and approved the completed applicationÌýbefore submission.
