Campus Type Data Search
The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) has a classification system that categorizes campuses into categories based on population size and proximity to urban areas. NCES classifies campuses into twelve categories, composed of four basic types (City, Suburban, Town, and Rural) which are further differentiated by size (in the case of City and Suburban assignments) and proximity (in the case of Town and Rural assignments).

District Type Data Search
TEA and the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) have classification systems that categorize districts into categories based on factors such as enrollment, population size, and proximity to urban areas. TEA classifies districts into nine categories: major urban, major suburban, other central city, other central city suburban, independent town, non-metropolitan: fast growing, non-metropolitan: stable, rural, and charter schools. NCES classifies districts into twelve categories, composed of four basic types (City, Suburban, Town, and Rural) which are further differentiated by size (in the case of City and Suburban assignments) and proximity (in the case of Town and Rural assignments). Beginning with 2017-18, both TEA and NCES categorizations will be included in the district type datasets.
