School Board Training Providers
There are three different categories of trainers eligible to provide state-mandated training for school board trustees: registered providers, authorized providers, and Lone Star Governance Coaches. Each category has its own requirements, and trainers in each category are eligible to provide certain training. Find the one that's right for your board below.
Registered Providers
New SBOE rules effective August 25, 2025, change eligibility for school board training providers—only individuals (not organizations) may apply, and new requirements include fingerprinting, a college degree, and no disqualifying criminal history. Please review this memo for full details and next steps. This FAQ provides additional information.
Registered providers approved to train school district boards of trustees are eligible to conduct the following required training:
- Team Building (Team-of-Eight)
- Framework for School Board Development
- Texas Education Code (Update)
- Human Trafficking
Registered providers approved to train charter school board members and school officers are eligible to conduct the following required training:
- Charter Law
- Accountability to the Public
- Accountability for Public Funds
- School Safety
Authorized Providers
Authorized providers may provide the required Evaluating and Improving Student Outcomes (EISO) training, as well as other school board member training for school districts and charters, but are not eligible to provide the Lone Star Governance workshop.
Authorized providers approved to train school district trustees may conduct the following training:
- Evaluating and Improving Student Outcomes (EISO)
- Team Building (Team-of-Eight)
- Framework for School Board Development
- Texas Education Code (Update)
- Human Trafficking
Authorized providers approved to train charter school board members and school officers may conduct the following training:
- Evaluating and Improving Student Outcomes (EISO)
- Charter Law
- Accountability to the Public
- Accountability for Public Funds
- School Safety
To become an authorized provider, complete an Evaluating and Improving Student Outcomes (EISO) training and pass the Authorized Provider Exam with a minimum score of 80. A schedule of all upcoming EISO training and associated registration information is available on the .
Lone Star Governance Coaches
Certified Lone Star Governance (LSG) Coaches are highly trained governance experts who are able to lead the Lone Star Governance workshop and who are also authorized providers for most other required school board member training.
LSG coaches approved to train school district trustees may conduct the following training:
- Lone Star Governance Workshop
- Evaluating and Improving Student Outcomes (EISO)
- Team Building (Team-of-Eight)
- Framework for School Board Development
- Texas Education Code (Update)
- Human Trafficking
LSG coaches approved to train charter school board members and school officers may conduct the following training:
